Keani Alapa was born and raised in Ka‘a‘awa on O‘ahu and graduated from the Kamehameha Schools in Kapālama. He attended the University of Hawai‘i in Mānoa where he pursued a degree in psychology and played football as an outside linebacker, earning numerous awards both on and off the field. Following college, Mr. Alapa joined the Honolulu Police Department’s 150th recruit class and was awarded the “Most Outstanding Recruit” and “Top Academic” awards. After serving four years as a police officer, Mr. Alapa earned his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law, where he excelled in oral advocacy, being named co-champion of the 2010 Susan B. McKay Oral Advocacy Competition at the University of Hawai‘i and National Champion of the 2011 Native American Moot Court Competition at the Columbia School of Law. Following law school, Mr. Alapa has primarily practiced in the areas of plaintiffs personal injury law, union labor law and workers’ compensation. He has also served as an adjunct professor in business law at Hawaii Pacific University and is passionate about supporting the youth sports community in Hawai‘i. He continues to volunteer his time to various youth sports organizations, including previously serving as a Hawai‘i high school football coach.
